When I started out my SEO Blog, I decided that I would stick with ethical SEO techniques. My mentor that I had at that time, used many shortcuts that were blackhat or on the border line of being blackhat.

I finally had to break ties with him because we had such a difference of ethics. It is amazing how many people do these shortcuts and think that they are doing nothing wrong.

My blog is coming a long just fine. However, sometimes ethical methods aren't as fast as blackhat techniques. But, I sleep a lot better at night knowing that the rug isn't going to be pulled out from me at any time.

While i was searching the web, and also reading a bit about bad SEO practices (seo fail), i came across this post.
Well it seems to me that the aim was to show a bad SEO example and not teach anyone HTML, the image tag or it's alt attribute.
However we should strive for the accuracy of terms.
Nevertheless, this was a good example of a not so good seo practice.
Regards.

@Dan - Yeah, it's technically incorrect to call them alt tags, but everyone understands what he's talking about when he says that, even the web developers and designers. I doubt that small distinction will make a lick of difference with the developers we talk to (they've got plenty more to fight about). Besides, we try to use the correct terminology when talking to anyone who knows the difference.

I hate to sound pedantic, but there is no such thing as the ALT tag. There is, however, an altl="" attribute that belongs to the IMG element.

I'd love to see SEO firms such as this one to use the proper terminology when it comes to HTML elements, tags, and attributes. If more companies and individuals could do this, then perhaps we'd all be able to work better with the Web designers and developers we currently find ourselves fighting against in the never-ending quest to make our clients more money online.
