Mike,

AGREED on the importance of a good domain name that involves the main keyword.

One time a 301 redirect makes sense regarding multiple domains is when someone has several versions of the same domain name. ie - www.mysite.com, www.mysite.net, www.mysite.org, etc.

Ken,

301 redirecting several sites to one site will not help with SEO. If you own several domains, you could create a simple site for each one and fill them with useful content, then link to your main site from them. That would be the best way to utilize them for search engine optimization on your main site.

Mike,

Great post and congratulations on the success of your wife's site!

I have a question on this strategy...is there any benefit to owning several domain names that are relevant keywords and then doing a 301 redirect to the one site of the company? If a company only wants to have one website, is there a way to own domains for several keywords and have them all point to the same site? What would be the best way to handle this?
