About Macy Storm
Macy Storm is a Content Marketing Consultant at SEO.com who has a rare skill: making dense, technical marketing concepts actually make sense (and occasionally even fun to read about). She’s been in the content marketing trenches for 8+ years, joining WebFX in 2017, and over that time, she’s built a reputation for taking topics that make most people’s eyes glaze over (algorithm shifts, AI search mechanics, technical SEO) and turning them into content that’s clear, useful, and doesn’t read like it was written by a robot (ironic, given how much of her recent work is about AI).
Macy’s expertise runs wide. She’s spent years writing core SEO content, but as the search landscape has shifted, so has her focus. She’s become one of SEO.com’s go-to voices on AI search and generative engine optimization (GEO). Her recent work breaks down exactly what businesses need to know as AI reshapes how people find information online: whether keywords still matter for AI search (they do, just differently), how to build a real strategy around Gemini, the red flags to watch for when vetting an AI SEO agency, why sites lose traffic to AI Overviews, and how content debt quietly drags down AI visibility. It’s the kind of writing that requires actually understanding the mechanics of how AI engines pull, evaluate, and cite information, not just repeating buzzwords.
But Macy’s expertise doesn’t stop at SEO and AI search. She’s also well-versed in content marketing strategy end to end, from planning and creating content to measuring whether it’s actually working, along with email marketing and social media, giving her a genuinely full-funnel view of how content performs across channels, not just on a search results page. She brings that same “explain it like a person, not a textbook” approach to SEO.com’s YouTube channel, where she creates educational videos that break down SEO and AI search concepts for viewers who’d rather watch an explanation than read one.
Macy holds a B.A. in Communication and a B.A. in History, and since joining WebFX, she’s authored more than 1,000 pages of content for it and SEO.com, with her work featured by Search Engine Journal, HubSpot, Entrepreneur, Clutch, and more.
What sets Macy’s writing apart isn’t just that she knows the subject matter, it’s how she delivers it. She leans on storytelling, straightforward explanations, and a little bit of sass to make sure her content doesn’t just rank, but resonates. She’s not interested in writing content that technically checks SEO boxes but says nothing. If you’re reading one of her articles, you’re getting the real, useful version of the answer, not the padded one.
When she’s not being a master of the content creation universe, you’ll find Macy playing video games with friends, attempting a new craft that will become her obsession, finally finishing that book she started months ago, or fielding yet another round of unsolicited compliments about how adorable her dog Daisy is. (She agrees. Daisy is, in fact, that cute.)
Expert SEO Take: What’s one thing most people are getting wrong about SEO and AI search right now?
A big thing people are getting wrong is that you need to show up all the time in every AI-powered search you optimize for to prove your strategy is successful. It’s not realistic. AI search continually shifts and is extremely volatile, so it can change rapidly. Even things like past search history can influence outcomes for individual users, which means you may or may not show up for them.
Don’t make the mistake of focusing on showing up in every response you target, it will lead to failure and discouragement. Instead, focus on showing up at all and being part of the conversation.
