With the release  of ChatGPT Pulse, we’ve now launched the era of “push” AI. The push era means that, instead of people going to AI search platforms and guiding the conversation, AI is now guiding the research and next steps. It’s preemptively pushing users towards what to search, instead of users have to think of what to ask.

ChatGPT Pulse is the driving force behind this push era of AI, which means you need to prepare your business for this shift in AI search.

Luckily, I’ve got all the insights you need to get your business ready.

Let’s get to the good stuff!

How to prepare your business for ChatGPT Pulse

Much like the rest of ChatGPT, there isn’t a clear-cut, easy solution for appearing in ChatGPT Pulse. But, there are some best practices you can follow that are likely to help you increase your chances of appearing in ChatGPT Pulse feeds:

1. Focus on boosting your visibility

Visibility is a key component of ChatGPT and ChatGPT Pulse. You need to be visible to get your business appearing anywhere in ChatGPT. So, first and foremost, focus on enhancing your online visibility.

Here are some ways you can increase your visibility across ChatGPT and ChatGPT Pulse:

  • Create high-quality content with original insights
  • Have authentic conversations on forums and social media to build brand reputation
  • Build citations across the web through guest posting, aggregate sites, and other similar reputable sources
  • Make your brand messaging consistent across platforms to solidify positioning
  • Manage sentiment around your brand to build a strong reputation

2. Focus on cluster content (and the next steps)

Cluster content and building content around the “next steps” is something I think will be big with ranking in ChatGPT Pulse. A key functionality of ChatGPT Pulse is that it does asynchronous research based on your prior searches and history.

So, it’s naturally moving you to the next “step” or the next piece of information you’d want to know about a topic.

That’s why content clustering is the perfect strategy. It makes you build content around related topics, which provides you with a natural opportunity to appear in someone’s Pulse the next day.

Here’s an example of a content cluster, using diabetes management as the center topic:

Content cluster map example using diabetes management

So, let’s say that someone was chatting with ChatGPT about how to manage blood sugar. ChatGPT provides tips on how to keep sugars steady and what to do when blood sugar is low. So, naturally, what would be the next step of information ChatGPT could provide?

Speculation: It might provide information about foods to avoid or how to manage the side effects of blood sugar highs and lows. Those could be the next logical research steps after learning how to manage blood sugar.

This is just speculation, since every user journey looks different and some user may opt to curate their content while others don’t, creating variation. But, the concept remains the same: ChatGPT wants to provide the information that’s the next logical step or related to the topic in the research process.

That’s why content clustering has potential to be so valuable. Content clusters ensure you’re covering all the different angles of a larger topic, which helps you build your website as a well-rounded resource for information.

Think you want to give content clusters a shot?

First, identify core topics that are most important to your business. Then, inventory any content you already have around those topics. From there, you can start building your clusters and comparing the content you already have to the gaps you need to fill. AI can be a big help with this!

Once you identify the content you need, you can start creating it to help you build your business as a topical authority and have better chance of being pulled in ChatGPT Pulse feeds.

Keep in mind that your content should be:

  • Helpful to the user
  • High-quality and informative
  • Leveraging credible sources
  • Presenting a unique perspective

3. Keep content fresh

Freshness is important when it comes to preparing your business to rank in ChatGPT. While freshness alone won’t propel your business straight into ChatGPT search results, it is an important component of getting your brand to appear in ChatGPT searches, and, subsequently, ChatGPT Pulse.

Here are a few reasons why you’ll want to keep content fresh:

  • Outdated information can be viewed as less trustworthy: If you have content that hasn’t been updated in years, it may be perceived as irrelevant. AI systems tend to lean on up-to-date, active content.
  • You get a competitive edge: If AI systems are between citing you or a competitor, they may choose your page because it’s more updated than the competition. It can be a small advantage that gets you cited in ChatGPT search results over your competitors.

Keeping content fresh is especially important when you operate in a sector that is fast-changing, like cybersecurity or healthcare. It ensures you’re providing the most accurate information to your audience, which can also help you appear in ChatGPT Pulse feeds.

4. Integrate structured data

Implementing structured data may be a good way to get your business to appear in ChatGPT Pulse. It’s already speculated that structured data is a good way to get yourself in ChatGPT, so it’s likely it will play a role in helping you appear in ChatGPT Pulse.

Structured data helps LLMs understand the content of your pages and provides context, which helps you appear in relevant chats. Some structured data you’ll want to implement (where appropriate) includes:

  • Article
  • FAQ
  • HowTo
  • Product

These schema options in particular provide helpful context for LLMs, which can help you appear in more relevant search results.
